What are craft spirits?
The American Distilling Institute defines craft spirits as “the products of an independently-owned distillery with maximum annual sales of 52,000 cases where the product is physically distilled and bottled on-site.”
Voting members of the American Craft Distillers Association must “be independent licensed distillers with a valid DSP, subscribe to ACSAs Code of Ethics, have more than a 75% equity stake and/or operational control of the DSP, and annually produce fewer than 315,451 9-liter cases (12 750 ml bottles) of 100 proof spirit.”
How many craft distilleries are there in the US?
The Craft Spirits Data Project, an industry report released by The American Craft Spirits Association (ASCA), International Wine and Spirits Research (IWSR) and Park Street, indicates there were 1,835 craft distillers active in the United States as of August, 2018.
The Top 10 states with the highest number of craft distilleries are:
California, New York, Washington, Colorado,Texas, Oregon, Pennsylvania, North Carolina, Ohio, and Florida.
When is Craft Spirits Week 2020?
It is the third week of June each year. CSW is on hold for 2020 due to COVID-19.
